Where One of New York City’s Best Pastry Chefs Buys Her Bread

Eunji Lee loves New York City’s diversity. She says, “There are many cultures from all over the world.” It’s a truly global community, and you can find a wide variety of restaurants from casual to fine-dining to modern.

The 2023 F&W New Chef of the Year, Lysee, is the owner/mind behind the pastry shop. She has good taste and can point out some of the most delicious bites in the five boroughs. Every place has a unique and authentic take, which you can only find in New York City. Here are some of her favorites.

Home-field advantage

When my family and friends come to visit me, I take them to Shake Shack. It’s a must-do for me, because it is delicious.

Breakfast of Champions

I love the breakfast sandwich from Daily Provisions. I’m known for my sweet tooth, but I love a good salty breakfast, such as a classic cheese, bacon, and egg sandwich. It’s a New York Classic.”

Soju and barbecue

After a long day at work, I go to New Wonjo. These are Korean-style restaurants, where you can drink soju while enjoying barbecue or comfort food.

Wood-fired

“Jua, one of the finest restaurants in the city, is also one of my favorites. It’s wood-fired Korean food with a Michelin star. “The food is incredible from start to end.”

A worthy splurge

“Gramercy Tavern deserves the hype.” They always have good food and drinks. Eleven Madison Park is still good, even though they have changed their concept. “The food is amazing, and I’m impressed that the entire meal (as is their cocktail and wine menu) is plant-based.”

Loaf love

The baguettes are incredible at Breads. Mel’s Bakery has excellent sourdough.

Patio vibes

“Roberta’s in Bushwick has probably my favorite outdoor patio. But Oxalis and Olmsted are a close second!”

The night out

“For a date night, I love Le Coucou. It’s very romantic. If I want to go out for a special night, I like Côte and Carne Mare.
